Liveplay is a format for entries featuring live musical performances by BotBrs. Entries must include an audio recording (not MIDI data) of you playing an instrument. The entry does not have to be entirely liveplay, so long as at least one component was performed live.
A substantial amount of human input should be involved in the performance. Operating a drum pad is cool; simply pressing "play" on a pre-programmed sequence is not. Processing audio is fine so long as the resulting audio is identifiable as comprising a human performance.
Tools
You will need a musical instrument. You might think you don't own one, but if you are a human being with a body, vocal cords, and/or objects in your immediate vicinity you would be mistaken. With enough imagination, the whole world is an instrument.
Your performance must be captured live in audio form - the most obvious way to do this is to use a microphone to record yourself playing. However, recording from the line out jack of an electronic instrument or using a PC interface for instruments such as electric guitar is another possible means of audio capture.
You can also use your computer's own keyboard to control a software instrument. You can capture the audio output from your PC speaker with a microphone, or internally with free software such as
OBS Studio or
Audacity. Therefore, it is possible to participate in liveplay battles using nothing more than your own computer.
